Global Allies for Prayer (GAP) was formed in 1997 to answer God's call in Ezekiel 22:30. As the Luke Society has spread its Great Commission call to spread to the farthest corners of the world, the need for an army of prayer warriors became paramount. Luke Society directors serve in areas of great need and in many cases, "hot zones" where risk and persecution are part of everyday life. Each day they walk into the trenches of spiritual war to take the healing touch and the gospel of Jesus Christ. In some ways, our international ministry directors are like M.A.S.H. units - following Christ from village to village to bring "Medical And Spiritual Healing." They serve as medical professionals who are committed to the cause and mission of Jesus Christ and His gospel of truth to the poor, suffering, and lost of this world.
Brenda David is the Luke Society Prayer Ministry Coordinator, and she is dedicated to spend time in prayer each day for ministry partners around the world. There are several hundred prayer warriors from the US and other countries who join with the Luke Society in prayer each month. This army of prayer warriors helps our ministry partners go into battle each day as they seek to guide people to Jesus. Please consider joining this effective part of our ministry!
As said in the Life Application Bible, "Prayer is the key that unlocks faith in our lives. Effective prayer needs both an attitude -- complete dependence -- and an action -- asking. Prayer demonstrates our reliance on God as we humbly invite Him to fill us with faith and power. There is no substitute for prayer, especially in circumstances that seem impossible."
The relationship between a physician and patient is one of trust and confidentiality. We pray that as our partners treat disease and injury that they will also help heal emotional and spiritual wounds. We pray that their words and actions will be evidence of Jesus in their hearts. There are countless stories of hurting patients who came to know Jesus because the Holy Spirit worked through our ministry partners.
Several of our partners, when they hear how many Christians are praying for them on a daily basis, get tears in their eyes, and many can witness to feeling the power of those prayers. As these brothers and sisters are being the hands and feet of Jesus, we need, along with them, to put on the full armor of God: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the footgear for readiness to spread the Good News, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
