Birtamode, Nepal

The Luke Society teamed up with Dr. Kapil Mishra to found ministry in Damak, Nepal,  in 2007. The ministry includes medical care and church planting, and the PMT status is currently open.

Dr. Kapil Mishra was born in Bhutan, a small, mountainous country east of Nepal. His family was Hindu, despite Buddhism being the official religion of Bhutan, and they belonged to a native Nepalese tribe. As a child, his familyТs Hindu beliefs did not provide satisfaction to the questions he had about life. "I asked so many questions that I would get into trouble at school," he says. At age sixteen, he met a Christian doctor from India who finally answered his questions. "For every question I asked, he was able to give a good answer directly from Scripture."

Matupi, Myanmar

Founded in 1996, the Luke Society ministry in Matupi, Myanmar, is directed by Rev. Chan Thleng. The ministry provides medical training of church planters, economic development (rubber, rice, and oranges) and a Siloam medical clinic. Matupi, Myanmar has an Associate Ministry status.

Reverend Chan Thleng’s concern for the Matu people in rural Myanmar arises from the fact that he was born and raised there. His parents became Christians soon after he was born. The evangelist who converted his parents encouraged them to name him Chan Thleng, meaning "the time has changed." It symbolized their conversion from animism.

Papua, Indonesia

Founded in 2000, the Luke Society ministry in Papua, Indonesia, is directed by Dr. Julius Surjadi. The ministry provides medical care, community outreach, and evangelism. Indonesia has an Associate Ministry status.

It has proven to be quite an undertaking for Dr. Julius Surjadi to teach community health and proper living to a group of people who are so remote that helicopters and airplanes are used to reach them. They are so primitive that women still wear grass skirts, and pigs are valued more than women.
