As the Luke Society expands its reach by partnering with Christian visionaries around the world, the work of regional coordinators has become increasingly important. These five men help seek out other leaders who share the vision of reaching their own people through community health care and the gospel of Christ, and then provide them with guidance in planning their ministries.
Dr. Apolos Landa and Dr. John Boateng took on the coordinator roles in 1996 and quickly began identifying and mentoring leaders like Dr. Jose Israel Hernandez in Guatemala, Dr. Miguel Cayo in Bolivia, Dr. Ousmane Soh in Senegal, and Dr. Paul Atem in Cameroon.
Dr. Pal Oroszi was added to the regional coordinators in 2005. He is mentoring Rev. Vitaly Korsunsky and Dr. Oleg Kobach in Rivne, Ukraine, and has several contacts in various other Eastern European countries.
In 2006, Dr. Jose Luis Guerrero was added to the group and now coordinates our partners in Central America.
Dr. Julius Surjadi became Regional Coordinator for Asia in 2007. He has been familiarizing himself with current Luke Society ministries in Asia and is meeting with potential new partners.
The regional coordinators also help evaluate and provide guidance for existing program leaders. Each of these coordinators have held regional conferences for their ministries, offering them a time to share ideas, prayer requests, and even frustrations with people who experience similar struggles and triumphs.
Because the Luke Society has a small central office, the regional coordinators provide the international directors with another link to the central office and an additional resource to assist them in their ministry.
“These regional coordinators serve as a bridge between us and the cultures and languages of our ministry directors,” says Executive Director, Dr. Wrede Vogel.
