Ministry profile
Clinica Medica El Buen Pastor is the oldest continuously supported international ministry of the Luke Society, providing hope and care to the Olancho, Honduras, region for more than three decades.
The ministry reaches the poor and needy of Honduras with quality health care at affordable prices. Dr. Nestor Salavarria is the long-time ministry director in Olancho.
El Buen Pastor became affiliated with the Luke Society in 1983. The clinic provides primary care, ultrasounds, pediatric, dental and surgical care. Specialists also come to the clinic as needed. In addition to the Olancho residents, Salavarria has provided health care to the Tolpan Indians for many years.
The ministry actively develops leaders with more than 900 community health workers and 380 midwives being trained since its inception. The ministry has formed more than 35 church congregations in the Olancho region.

Dr. Nestor Salavarria knows the Luke Society as well as anyone. For parts of four decades he has been a faithful servant at Clinica Medica El Buen Pastor in Olancho. He models the Good Shepherd in his passion to reach the underserved in rural Honduras. He loves God and loves his brothers and sisters in Christ. The Partnership Ministry Team includes: Bob and Cheryl LaFleur, Jon and Wanda Cowan, John and Lorene Postma, and Dale and Martha McNinch.
