Vicksburg, Mississippi

Ministry profile

Dr. Peter and Eleanor Boelens have deep roots in the Luke Society and have remained active in the ministry for more than 40 years. Their efforts are now focused on the Shalom Prayer Ministry in Vicksburg, Miss.

Dr. Boelens established a holistic, community health ministry in 1972 when he opened the Cary Christian Health Center in Cary, Miss. Six years later he was appointed as director of the Luke Society, a position he held until 1999.

The Shalom Healing Prayer Ministry offers wellness to those suffering from depression and anxiety.

Some of these individuals have been part of a medical study. The neuronal changes occurring as they move into wellness have been documented in an fMRI brain imaging study pre- and post-prayer. The neuronal changes correlate with their life transformation testimonies.

Dr. Boelens hopes to use insights from these studies to preventively and therapeutically address the disintegration of poverty families.
