Luke Society Eloxochitlán

Eloxochitlán, Mexico

Drs. Ádan Diáz and Keila Fernandez are simply two mission-minded doctors responding to a call.

The husband-wife duo could’ve gone most anywhere given their medical education background, but their call to the tiny village of Eloxochitlán is bringing help to a much needed area where the average daily salary is just $8 per day.

Ádan is a dentist, while Keila as an optometrist. They operate out of a small clinic in the community where they also do some emergency treatments, such as suturing and removing foreign bodies from eyes and ears.

“We’ve established better relationships with the churches in the area, and we’ve seen their strengths and weaknesses. Now we can serve them better,” Ádan said.

Beside the clinic work, the couple is building inroads to the community and doing some socioeconomic community surveys to get a better understanding of the needs and beliefs in the area. They hold an annual youth camp to encourage and deepen the faith of teenagers and are working to bring together pastors from surrounding communities for encouragement and mutual sharpening.
