Support for San Juan dental equipment
The Luke Society is hoping to raise $30,000 to equip the ministry in San Juan, Guatemala, with a new panoramic dental X-ray machine. Other safety equipment permits are needed as well.
SAN JUAN, LA LAGUNA, GUATEMALA—On my 20th birthday I began experiencing severe pain in my mouth and learned that my impacted wisdom teeth needed to be removed. It certainly was not the birthday gift I had hoped for. Yet, I am grateful for the dentists, equipment and medical technology that made the procedure possible and relieved my pain.
For many people living in the mountainous region surrounding San Juan, Guatemala, that kind of care is simply out of reach. Too often, families delay treatment or suffer without care due to the high costs and long travel required for diagnostic testing and surgery.
Dr. Israel Hernandez has a vision to change that. Through his busy medical clinic in San Juan, he faithfully serves some of the most vulnerable families in the region, providing compassionate medical and dental care, while also sharing the hope of the Gospel.
Over the past several years, Dr. Israel has worked diligently to expand his ministry by building a clinic and now adding a second level to the facility. Once construction is completed this Septem ber, he plans to move his dental practice upstairs and create a space equipped for more advanced dental procedures.
To make this vision a reality, Dr. Israel would like to add a panoramic dental X-ray machine along with the necessary protective equipment and government permits. This equipment would allow his dental team to safely perform surgeries for the first time, serv ing patients from San Juan and at least five surrounding towns.
Forty-two-year-old María Ulario Sacach was in need of dental surgery but her only option was traveling to a distant city — a journey she described as “very far for me.” She added, “it would be good if we had those services here in San Juan, since it is difficult and expensive for us to travel.”
The total cost of the panoramic X-ray machine, protective equipment and permits is $50,000. The Luke Society hopes to contribute $30,000 toward this project, and we are asking our supporters to prayerfully consider partnering with us. Your gift would help bring compassionate, high-quality dental care to underserved families who might otherwise go without treatment — while also open ing doors for Gospel ministry and Christ-centered care in their community.
