No burden too great for the Lord’s care

The Luke Society operates in many areas like this one in the Dominican Republic where poverty is problematic.

REGIONAL―Wars, unemployment, homelessness, hunger, mental health crises, economic uncertainty ― the state of the world can seem hopeless. Many want to help, but the needs can appear so overwhelming they wonder whether their efforts can make any difference.

Psalm 145 (14-16, 18a) encourages me. David writes, “The LORD upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satis fy the desire of every living thing... The LORD is near to all who call on him.”

David reminds us that God is the one who ultimately provides, heals and comforts. Yet Jesus calls us to be faithful in the little things, following His lead to love and serve those around us. We may not be able to solve all the wrongs and injustices in this world, but we can faithfully do the small, daily things God places before us. When we miss an opportunity, God’s grace forgives us.

The same God who provides and sustains His people also invites us to bring our burdens to Him. Jesus said in Matt. 11:28-29, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me...and you will find rest for your souls.”

Anything God asks us to do, He comes alongside us to accomplish. He does not call us to carry the weight of changing the world on our shoulders; he calls us to follow Him. As His people faithfully obey together, His purposes are accomplished in the world.

One thing I love about the Luke Society is the opportunity to participate in God’s work. Every prayer offered, every gift given and every patient served becomes part of His Kingdom work on earth. We may not always see the results, but one day in heaven, we will witness the beautiful tapestry God has woven through acts of faithfulness. What a joy it will be to see the lives He touched and the meaningful part He allowed each of us to play in His masterpiece.
