Philippines vehicle project
Living our their calling to serve people in remote villages requires reliable transportation. The Luke Society is hoping to help the Cayaons as their continue this part of their ministry. (Photo by Dr. Greg Kuiper)
Accessing rural mountain communities has always been a challenge for Rev. Ben and Dr. Susie Cayaon, whose ministry encompasses the southern portion of the island of Palawan, Philippines. Visiting these isolated villages is essential to train tribal pastors who share the Good News with local residents. However, for the past year, it hasn’t been possible to make these visits.
The four-wheel drive Toyota Hilux pick-up provided by the Luke Society has been a solid and reliable vehicle for 20 years. But after logging more than 170,000 miles, frequent breakdowns and repairs now prevent Ben and Susie from venturing off the main road.
The vehicle has multiple other uses: home visits, making the three-hour drive to Puerto Princesa to pick up clinic materials, and transporting children and young people for informal church activities and Bible studies. Trips to the mechanic have become increasingly part of the routine.
We recognize that asking our donors to supply funds for replacing a vehicle is not the most exciting prospect, but a vehicle is just as important as a stethoscope in this evangelistic medical ministry.
In addition to training rural pastors, the Cayaons manage an active medical clinic, birthing center, lab, pharmacy and digital X-Ray department. They launched the Luke Society Kiddie Center, which is a Christian preschool program serving 60-90 children annually. They also operate a Christian radio station on campus as part of their evangelistic outreach.
We are asking for your help to allow them to continue to function efficiently in these Kingdom-building tasks and to help them resume visits to train the rural pastors. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to replace the aging vehicle. Thank you for being an essential part of bringing the hope and eternal healing touch of Jesus to Southeast Asia.
